Job Opening : Engineering Technician

The Engineering Technician will be responsible for supporting all aspects of the testing process in the field and laboratory. Under the supervision of project managers, laboratory managers, or scheduling coordinator, the Engineering technician's main responsibilities are (but not limited to):

Responsibilities

  • Monitor the quality of construction building materials (soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt) and observe the application according to the requirements of the plans, specifications, and standards.
  • Perform tests in the field and in the laboratory on construction materials to assess their quality.
  • Prepare samples for appropriate tests.
  • Ensure accuracy of test data.
  • Write technical memos and site visit reports.
  • Maintain equipment and laboratory in good condition.
  • Liaison with clients, contractors and attend site meetings.
  • Knowledge of ASTM/CCIL/MTO testing procedure.

Qualifications

  • College diploma in Civil Engineering (an asset)
  • Interested in teamwork, autonomous, and organized
  • Good physical condition
  • Valid driver's license and a vehicle
  • Ability to work out of town and work different shifts as scheduling requires
  • CSA/CCIL Certification for Asphalt or Concrete is an asset (candidates will be given first considerations)
  • General knowledge of construction materials

Job Opening : Senior Geotechnical Engineer

Working alongside a team of skilled engineers and technologists, you will provide cost-effective, high-quality, and timely geotechnical engineering recommendations for diverse projects.

Responsibilities

  • Manage medium to large geotechnical projects while coordinating smaller projects and tasks for junior staff.
  • Conduct technical reviews and oversight of field investigations, laboratory analysis, reporting, field monitoring, and testing activities.
  • Perform detailed geotechnical analysis and design tasks.
  • Prepare and review proposals, field reports, and technical documents.
  • Manage costs, coordinate with vendors, and collaborate with field personnel. Foster effective communication and collaboration with management, coworkers, contractors, and subcontractors.
  • Serve as a responsible role model and mentor for junior engineers and technical staff.
  • Adhere to industry principles, procedures, and practices of geotechnical consulting. Demonstrate proficiency in using instruments and apparatus for geotechnical monitoring and investigation projects, ensuring routine maintenance of test equipment.
  • Complete assignments promptly to meet projects deadlines.
  • Exhibit independent analytical thinking, anticipating, troubleshooting, and resolving problems as they arise.
  • Ensure compliance with all company health and safety policies and Provincial legislation.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from a recognized program in civil or geological engineering. Candidates with relevant advanced degrees are encouraged to apply.
  • Current membership with PEO as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng. designation), or registration in good standing in another Canadian jurisdiction.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in geotechnical report writing.
  • 10+ year's experience in geotechnical consulting.
  • Strong background in geohazard assessment, slope assessment, earth structures, and foundation engineering.
  • Proficiency in the use of Slope/W software.
  • Knowledge of current professional practices and technological advancements in geotechnical engineering.
  • Preference for candidates with an understanding of soils mechanics related to slope assessments, along with familiarity with materials engineering and geo- environmental assessment.
  • Excellent English written and spoken language skills, with a demonstrated ability in comprehension.
  • Flexibility to travel and work away from home to accommodate client needs. Demonstrated knowledge of Canadian Engineering Standards and Codes applicable for working across Canada.
  • Effective interpersonal skills with proven ability to manage clients and technical staff.
  • Attention to detail and excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Positive attitude and strong work ethic.

Job Opening : Geotechnical EIT

This role is to support the project manager or other staff as directed to assure client satisfaction through the preparation of detailed calculations, performing engineering analyses, and completing field assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Observing and documenting field activities related to geotechnical / construction/projects.
  • Sampling, testing, and inspecting soils.
  • Performing calculations and data reduction of test results along with drafting
  • Using field testing equipment and documenting readings
  • Reading maps, following directions, and interpreting engineering and construction plans
  • Interacting and communicating daily with contractors, technicians, and project manager
  • Determining and/or performing appropriate laboratory tests
  • Attending project meetings and assisting in project resolutions
  • Assisting with the preparation of proposals
  • Assisting with scheduling, training, and oversight of Field Technicians Assist with managing project budgets, project set-ups, and invoicing
  • Assist in writing the geotechnical reports
  • Experience with common geotechnical software such as GeoStudio, Slide, Settle3D, PLAXIS (preferred)

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in civil, geological, or environmental engineering (required)
  • Advanced degree in civil or geotechnical engineering (preferred)

Job Opening : Geotechnical Team Lead

PNJ is looking for an Intermediate to Senior Geotechnical Engineer to lead the geotechnical team in Toronto office with the support from other departments.

Responsibilities

  • Clearly demonstrating leadership in developing and delivering projects, which maximize PNJ's involvement through utilization of multi-disciplinary teams, and enhances our client's experience in working with PNJ
  • Responding to technical and administrative tasks associated with the development of tunnels projects.
  • Working collaboratively with our Joint Venture team partners and our clients Preparing of detailed design reports & construction reporting
  • Liaising with other disciplines, professionals, clients and third party as needed Preparing the PSOS specifications
  • Soft ground tunnelling ancillaries including ground treatment, dewatering, & ground freezing
  • Preparing of GBR's, review of GDR and geotechnical investigation planning for tunnel and underground structures
  • Calculating tunnelling induced settlement including analysis of damages to the adjacent infrastructure
  • Represent the company professionally in interactions with clients, vendors, and third-party contractors.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering
  • Master Degree in Tunnel/Geotechnical Engineering will be an asset
  • Chartered status is required or working towards it - P.Eng.
  • Confirmed experience in technical leadership and management of tunnel engineering
  • 10 year's experience with a minimum of 5 years in tunnel and underground projects
  • Validated capability in leading tunnel design & supervision teams for major interdisciplinary tunneling projects
  • Experience with multiple type of tunnel projects including bored and NATM
  • Experience in design of large diameter tunnels in soft ground (6m+)
  • Deep shaft & shoring design
  • Rail transit tunnel & station design experience
  • Hands on experience with analytical and numerical analysis methods and perform tunnel, precast concrete segmental tunnel linings and shaft design
  • Liaise with other disciplines, professionals, clients and third party as needed Exceptional verbal and report writing skills
  • Excellent problem solving, decision making and team work skills
