Abid holds a master's degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Geotechnical Engineering from York University. He also holds Master's degrees in Engineering Geology - Geohydrology and in Information Technology. He is registered as a Professional Engineer with PEO and Professional Geoscientist with PGO. He is a member of the Canadian Geotechnical Society, Pakistan Geotechnical Engineering Society, Tunneling Association of Canada, and Hong Kong Tunneling Society.
He has over 20 years of experience in various aspects of geo-engineering, including geotechnical, geo-environmental, hydrogeological, geotechnical instrumentations, pavement engineering (both highways and airfield), underground structures (tunnels, shafts, powerhouses, and subway facilities) design and construction supervision. He has also prepared numerous geotechnical investigation and design reports for commercial and residential developments, slopes, bridges, pavement, and culverts. He has been involved in the preparation of geotechnical baseline reports for several projects.
Abid is also experienced in tunnel boring machine (TBM) confinement studies, has worked on TBM dismantling, managed a slurry treatment plant, and designed instrumentation & monitoring requirements for construction projects. In addition, he has experience in design and calculation of support requirements for underground structures in soft / hard rock and mixed ground. He has been involved in P3/AFP projects, from the proposal phase to design and construction supervision, and has been involved in writing the geotechnical portion of Project Agreements and Project Specific Output Specifications.
